Alphalink does not tolerate ANY kind of Network Abuse, or activity
that breaches this "Acceptable Use Policy", whether it be through
choice or ignorance. Accounts may be suspended and/or cancelled
without refund, according to our Breach
of Policy procedures.
Network Abuse consists of spamming, sending harassing
or threatening email, hack attempts through back orifice, netbus
or any other means, nuking or any behavior of a malicious, reckless
or vexatious nature that is disruptive to other internet users.
Disruptions include, but are not limited to:
sending mass postings or bulk email, distribution of unsolicited
advertising, propagation of computer worms or viruses, using the
network to make unauthorised entry to any other machine accessible
via Alphalink, and forgery or attempted forgery of email messages
and Usenet news postings.
NOTE: Alphalink policy is such that you cannot send email to
more than 100 recipients in the one email, and no more than two
of these multi-recipient emails per day. Anything more than this,
constitutes a "mass posting".
You also need to be very careful about the use of "opt-in
lists" (or similar) that may be purchased on CD, or that
are available over the internet, as often the people on them are
not aware of ever having "opted in" despite claims that
may be made by the distributors of the material. As a result,
the use of such "opt-in lists" will constitute "spamming".
Material Subject to Copyright must not be included
on a member’s website, nor in any format that may be downloaded
by others, without the consent of the lawful owners of that material.
Any website that has content under copyright dispute will be disabled
until such time as one of the parties involved is able to prove
ownership. Where the matter is before the court, the website will
remain disabled until the court has made a decision and all periods
of appeal have lapsed.
Peer-to-peer file sharing software may be an
attractive way to obtain a wealth of material from the Internet,
however, members should be aware of some potential hidden dangers
associated with its use which may breach this Acceptable Use Policy
and the Alphalink Terms & Conditions of Use. Please refer
to our P2P software page for detailed information about this.
Networking, or running more than one computer off a single
connection, is neither supported, nor encouraged by Alphalink.
Small Businesses are welcome to use Alphalink according
to the guidelines set out in our information on Small
Business Use.
If you believe someone from Alphalink has abused any of the conditions
in this "Acceptable Use Policy", please email abuse@chariot.net.au
with a detailed description where possible, including the full
header of the Usenet post where in relation to spam; full headers
of threatening or harassing emails; program logs of any hack attempts,
including the offending IP and the time of the attempt.
