Network Connection Wizard

  1. Click on Start, select Settings, Click on Network and Dial-up Connections.
  2. Double-click on Make New Connection
  3. The Network Connection Wizard will now pop up. Click Next.
  4. In the Network Connection Type window, put a dot next to Connect to a private network through the Internet. Click Next
  5. Now in the Public Network window, put a dot next to Do not dial the initial connection. Click Next.
  6. In the Destination Address window you need to enter the Host name or IP address. Enter vpn.alphalink.com.au. Click Next
  7. Now you need to choose the Connection Availability. Put a dot next to For all users. Click Next.
  8. You are now ready to complete the Network Connection Wizard. In the box under Type the name you want to use for this connection, enter Alphalink Wireless Broadband. Place a tick next to Add a shortcut to my desktop. Click Finish

Configuring the connection

  1. Double-click on the Alphalink Wireless Broadband icon on your desktop. In the User name box, enter your login name (the first part of your Alphalink email address). In the Password box, type your Alphalink password.
  2. In the Connect window, click Properties. In the General tab, under Host name or IP address.. enter vpn.alphalink.com.au.
  3. Now Click on the Options tab. Under Dialling Options there should be ticks next to Display progress while connecting and Prompt for name and password, certificate, etc. Under Redialling options, put a tick next to Redial if line is dropped.
  4. Click on the Security tab. Put a dot next to Typical (recommended settings) and under Validate my identity as follows select Require Secured Password. Place a tick next to Require Data Encryption and click Ok
  5. You will be returned to the Security tab. Click on the Networking tab.
  6. Under Type of VPN: select Automatic. Under This connections uses the following items, only Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) should be ticked.
  7. Again from the Networking Tab, select TCP/IP and click Properties. Make sure there is a dot next to both Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically. Click Ok.
  8. Click Ok. Then Click Ok again.
  9. You are now ready to connect!
