Gigafast (ATMEL) USB CPE Software  @

The ATMEL 802.11 Wireless LAN software should automatically start each time you connect your USB device. If the software has started, there will be an icon in the tray, if not, try unplugging the device and plugging it back in. If the software still hasn't started, you can start in manually by:

  1. Clicking on the Start button
  2. Selecting Programs
  3. Selecting ATMEL 8021.11 Wireless LAN
  4. Clicking on Configuration & Monitor Utility

The icon in your system tray will either be RED or BLUE. A BLUE icon indicates that your CPE is functioning and has associated with your local node. A RED icon indicates that there is some problem with your connection.

If the icon is BLUE, there should be no need to change any settings within the software.

If the icon is RED, first try restarting your computer. Once restarted, give the device a minute or two to associate with a node. If the icon goes BLUE, try connecting again. If the icon remains red, unplug the CPE and plug it back in again. If it remains RED, utilise your backup dialup (it was setup at the time of installation), and try again in half an hour. If you still can't connect after half an hour, give Technical Support a call on 1300 137 425.

Configuring your CPE

You should never need to change the settings of your CPE unless instructed to do so by a technician.

You can access your CPE configuration utility by double-clicking on the icon in your system tray.
  1. Under the Monitor Tab, you should have the following:
    1. In the drop down list, you should see ATMEL USB FastVNET(A).
    2. The operating mode should be Infrastructure.
    3. The Channel are SSID determined by the node you connect to.
    4. The Tx Rate should be set to Auto (however, setting this to a lower value such as Fixed 1Mbps may improve the stability of your connection.).
    5. The MAC Address is that of your device.
    6. The Signal Strength and Link Quality provide information about your connection.

  2. Under the Site Survey tab, you will see a list of all the Access Points in your area. You should see the node you were connected to at the time of installation.

  3. Under the Encryption tab, you will see information regarding the WEP. This information should not be changed as it will prevent you from connecting to Alphalink.

  4. Under the Advanced tab, the Preamble Type should be set to Long, the Fragmentation Threshold should the 2346, and the RTS/CTS Threshold should be 2347.
