News and Information

With numerous clubs and so many facets of amateur radio to
choose from, it can be hard to keep up with all the amateur radio activities in
your area. Fortunately Australian amateurs have a wide range of local and international
news services to choose from.
Weekly News ServicesThe best source of information about local, state and national amateur radio activities is the VK1WIA WIA News weekly bulletin. Bulletins run for approximately 30 minutes. On-air, e-mail and recorded audio versions are available. News items include WIA and club activities, details of licence classes, national and international news, advice of contests and more. Some states and clubs supplement the national bulletin with their own local news services, nets and/or callback sessions. Official announcements for amateurs appear on the Australian Communications Authority website.
International NewsNews from amateur radio societies in other countries can be found via the links below. New Zealand Association of Radio Transmitters Radio Society of Great Britain International Amateur Radio Union
MagazinesAmateur Radio is Australia's only monthly magazine devoted entirely to amteur radio. It's available in newsagencies or you can subscribe by joining the WIA. Other publications such as Silicon Chip (Australia), Elektor (UK), Electronics & Wireless World (UK), Everyday/Practical Electronics (UK) or Practical Electronics (USA) sometimes have articles relevant to amateur radio.
Web Forums and Email ListsThere are a couple of Australian amateur radio forums on the web. Though anyone can read messages, you need to register to be able to post. This is also the case for email lists that tend to cover more specialised areas, such as VHF DX or QRP.
